Vision Research Phantom Gold and Flex

High speed Digital Cinema cameras that shoot full 1920x1080 HD at over 1000 fps or 1500fps (Flex).  The cost savings in time and materials over film is significant.

Sensor

S35 sensor with a 2048x2048 (Gold) or 2650x1600 (Flex) resolution.  The Gold is approximately 100EI, while the Flex has an impressive 800 EI.  Flex is 12bit, Gold is selectable between 8-14bit.

Media

A 16GB Phantom will hold 4.4 seconds of realtime 1000fps footage, a full 3 minutes playback at 24fps.  On Flex, 1500fps can be achieved.  Offloading a 16GB camera takes 15 minutes, or add a CineMag to offload in seconds.  The Cinemag will immediately store up to 2 hours of 24fps 1080 HD video before needing to be offloaded itself.  This is recommended for most shoots

Post

The Phantom records .cine files which must be transcoded for for editing and correction.  This is a relatively painless process if using Gluetools plug-ins.

Notes

The minimum recommended fixture is 2K for unnoticeable flicker.  HMI’s produce a noticeable arc wander/flicker and are not suggested.

A Certified Phantom Tech is required for rental.
